Halloween at Home for Seniors

HALLOWEEN AT HOME FOR SENIORS

It is officially the time of year to celebrate the spooky side of life and even be a little silly. Many seniors look forward to seeing the costumes that their grandchildren have chosen and handing out candy at their doors. Due to COVID-19, however, the restrictions and social distancing measures have made Halloween celebrations hard to come by.

Home Care Associates has suggestions to make this Halloween just as special for seniors while helping them to remain safe in their homes, so don’t despair!

Halloween Crafts and Activities at Home

We understand how much fun Halloween can be for seniors to celebrate. It is often a festivity that is much anticipated and lifts the spirits of those involved. This year, we encourage you to take part in small, safe celebrations whether with your caretaker, your family members, or both!

There are many Halloween activities that you can choose to partake in! We have listed some of our favorite options below:

  1. Make Halloween-Themed Face Masks: In light of COVID-19, people everywhere are donning a new accessory: face masks. One fun way to embrace these coverings is to decorate a face mask for Halloween. This is a great way to get into the spirit of the holiday, and it provides you with a festive mask to wear. We guarantee your grandchildren will love it!
  2. Paint Pumpkins: Pumpkins are a staple of both Halloween and the fall. Painting small pumpkins to use as decorations around the home is a perfect activity for seniors! Each day that you see the pumpkins you painted with either your caretaker or your family members, you will smile.
  3. Have an In-Home, Family Trick-or-Treat: While traditional trick-or-treating is not an option this year, due to COVID-19, this doesn’t mean you can’t still hand out some candy. Consider having your close family and grandchildren over for a family trick-or-treat. Everyone can wear face masks, including the Halloween face masks we suggested above! While your family is there, take some Halloween pictures with everyone in their costumes. These will become priceless memories!
